2019-2020 academic course Colloquia on Complex Systems

The Institute for Cross-Disciplinary and Complex Systems (IFISC, UIB-CSIC) announces its 2019-2020 series of Colloquia on Complex Systems as part of its Maria de Maeztu Unit of Excellence program. The Colloquia on Complex Systems is a special series of seminars by eminent speakers who are working at the forefront of complex systems. The topics of the 2019-2020 Colloquia comprise fundamental aspects of Complex Systems Science together with aspects related to quantum biology, biological and ecological systems, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the classical and quantum domains as well as cities and urban systems.
The Colloquium series 2019-2020 will be opened on October 18 at noon by Prof. Stefan Thurner (Complexity Science Hub Vienna, Medical University of Vienna) who will talk on “Statistics of driven processes”. The second seminar will be “Are there non trivial quantum effects in biology? A discussion from an open quantum system perspective” by Prof. Susana Huelga (Institute of Theoretical Physics and Centre of Quantum BioScience, Ulm University) on November 27 at 15:00 h.
Next speaker will be Prof. Amos Maritan (Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Physics, Padova) and his talk “Optimality principles and scaling laws in living systems” on February 5 at 15:00 h. On March 9, Prof. Wolfgang Maas (Institute for Theoretical Computer Science, Graz University of Technology) will offer the talk “Reservoir computing from the perspective of Deep Learning”, while on May 20 Prof. Céline Rozenblat (Institute of Geography and Sustainability, University of Lausanne) will talk on “A multi-level network perspective on complex urban systems”, both seminars at 15:00 h.
The Colloquia on Complex Systems 2019-2020 will conclude with the seminar “Learning and artificial intelligence in the quantum domain” by Prof. Hans J. Briegel (Institute for Theoretical Physics, University of Innsbruck and Department of Philosophy, University of Konstanz) on June 17 at 15:00 h.
