IFISC Master student wins third prize in Tast de Màster awards

April 12, 2019

IFISC master student Irene Estebánez was awarded third prize in the second Edition of “Tast de Màster”, a competition organized within the “V Setmana dels estudis de Postgrau” program by the Centre d'Estudis de Postgrau (CEP) of the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB).

The contest is aimed at master’s students who defended their Master Thesis during the 2017-2018 academic year. The three winners were chosen by a panel composed of master's teachers, administrative staff and students. They evaluated the clarity of the presentations and the student’s ability to disseminate the results of their Master Thesis in five minute presentations.

Estébanez’s M.Sc. thesis, entitled “Autonomous dynamical systems based on hardware implementations of delay-reservoir computers” and supervised by IFISC researchers Miguel C. Soriano and Ingo Fischer, presented one of the first Reservoir Computing implementations for autonomous operation, allowing for trainable dynamical behavior. The implementation is able to reproduce the chaotic dynamics of a nonlinear oscillator only from its time series.
