Colloquia of Excellence 2017

April 5, 2017

The Institute for Cross Disciplinary and Complex Systems (IFISC, UIB-CSIC) is announcing its second series of Colloquia of Excellence. The Colloquia of Excellence, introduced in 2016, represent a special series of seminars by eminent speakers who are working at the forefront of complex systems.  The topics of the Colloquia comprise aspects of Complex Systems Science related to social and biological systems, photonics, quantum topological systems, as well as general statistical and condensed matter physics.

The Colloquium series 2017 will be opened on 5. April  at 15:00h in the IFISC seminar room (“Aula Montserrat Casas”).  Prof. Hans Herrmann from the ETH Zürich will talk on “Explosive percolation”.

Since 2017 marks the 10th anniversary of IFISC, the Institute will host the conference Crossroads in Complex Systems from 5th - 8th of June 2017. This conference will feature several Colloquia of Excellence: Colloquium speakers include Prof. Carlos Duarte from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia, Prof. Maciej Lewenstein from ICFO in Barcelona, Prof. Rajarshi Roy from University of Maryland in the USA, Prof. Alex Vespignani from Northeastern University in the USA and Prof. Angelo Vulpiani from University la Sapienza in Italy.

Additional Colloquia of Excellence will take place on 21. June 2017 with speaker Prof. Laurens Molenkamp from University of Würzburg, who will talk on "Topological Physics in HgTe-based Quantum Devices”, and on 20. September 2017 with speaker Prof. John Dudley from the FEMTO-ST Institute at Besancon in France. The Colloquia of Excellence 2017 will conclude with a seminar by Prof. David Krakauer, from the Santa Fe Institute (USA) on the 26. October 2017.

All seminars will be broadcasted via https://ifisc.uib-csic.es/events/colloquia-excellence/

The Colloquia of Excellence are supported by Red Eléctrica de España (REE), the European Physical Journal (EPJ), the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) and the European Physical Society (EPS).
