Summer School on Complex Socio-Technical Systems

Sept. 5, 2017

The science of complex systems has a privileged position to contribute greatly to the advancement of knowledge in social and economic systems. In this context, the ease of information technology in generating large amounts of data has brought an unprecedented opportunity to explore human interactions and to better understand social and economic systems. In addition, the presence of new technologies provides new means of effective interaction between people and triggers the emergence of new social phenomena.

IFISC (UIB-CSIC) together with the Asociación para el estudio de Sistemas Complejos Sociotecnológicos (COMSOTEC) and sponsored by the Red de Excelencia SocioComplex (FIS2015-71795-REDT) financed by the Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competividad (MINEICO) and Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Nacional (FEDER) organizes the Summer School on Complex Socio-Technical Systems. Over the course of a week, the attendees, mostly master's, doctoral and postdocs students, will be trained in four major blocks within socio-technical systems: Epidemiological models taught by Marco Ajelli (Bruno Kessler Foundation, Italy), Analysis of Big Data by Bruno Gonçalves (Big Data Center, USA), Modeling of social systems by Andreas Flache (Dept. Sociology, Netherlands) and Economic systems by Stefano Battiston (Institut für Banking and Finance, Switzerland). Attendees will be able to present their research to the other participants in poster format.

The opening ceremony of the school was attended by the director of IFISC and vice-president of COMSOTEC, Professor Maxi San Miguel and members of the school organization committee and researchers of IFISC, Professor Pere Colet and Professor José Javier Ramasco.
