Colloquia on Complex Systems 2019

Jan. 7, 2019

The Institute for Cross Disciplinary and Complex Systems (IFISC, UIB-CSIC) announces its 2019 series of Colloquia on Complex Systems as part of its Maria de Maeztu Unit of Excellence program.  The Colloquia on Complex Systems is a special series of seminars by eminent speakers who are working at the forefront of complex systems.  The topics of the Colloquia comprise aspects of Complex Systems Science related to social, financial and biological systems, climate, brain networks, as well as quantum biology.

The Colloquium series 2019 will be opened on January 16 at 15:00 h by Prof. Henk A. Dijkstra (Centre for Complex Systems Studies, University of Utrecht), who will talk on “The El-Niño Phomenon: Complexity and Predictability”.

Next speaker will be Prof. Rosario N. Mantegna (Palermo University) and his talk “Noise and information in economic and financial systems” on March 13 at 15:00 h. On April 2, Prof. Viktor Jirsa (Institute de Neurosciences des Systèmes, CNRS-Aix Marseille University) will offer the talk “Emergence and pattern formation in large-scale brain networks: from bifurcations to epilepsy”, while on June 21 Prof. Hernan Makse (Complex Networks and Data Science Lab, Levinch Institute of City College of New York) will talk on “Essential nodes and keystones species in the brain, ecosystems and social systems”, both seminars at 15:00 h.

Prof. Stefan Thurner (Complexity Science Hub Vienna, Medical University of Vienna) will be the next speaker on October 18 at noon, talking on “Statistics of driven processes”. The Colloquia on Complex Systems 2019 will conclude with the seminar “Are there non trivial quantum effects in biology? A discussion from an open quantum system perspective” by Prof. Susana Huelga (Institute of Theoretical Physics and Centre of Quantum BioScience, Ulm University) on November 27 at 15:00 h.

All seminars will be held in the IFISC seminar room (“Aula Montserrat Casas”) and broadcasted worldwide via https://ifisc.uib-csic.es/en/events/colloquia-complex-systems/colloquia-2019/
