We discuss the transport properties of quantum wires with spin-orbit (Rashba) interactions. We find that the physics of quantum transport depends strongly on whether the Rashba interaction is extended or local. Further, we show that the conductance is quite sensitive to applied magnetic fields since a pseudogap opens in the wire energy spectrum. Finally, we address the effect of Coulomb interactions in the case of a Rashba interaction induced quasi-bound state and find that the resonance width and the charging energy are tunable with the Rashba parameter, thus allowing to explore the trasition from the Coulomb blockade to the Kondo regime.
