The Scientific Advisory Board visits IFISC

Oct. 16, 2019

On October 10-11, the IFISC Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) visited our institute. The SAB serves as an external committee that provides guidance and recommendations to the research lines and projects developed at IFISC. The SAB attended a general presentation of IFISC activities by our Director, Maxi San Miguel, a presentation of the María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence program and its activities by the program PI, Claudio Mirasso, along with presentations of the IFISC research lines. These talks were also attended by CSIC Deputy President, Jesús Marco, by UIB Research Vicerector, Enrique García-Riaza, and by the Spanish Research Agency officer Cristina Espa. There was also a poster session by the María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence program PhD students and postdoc researchers.

During their visit, SAB members deepened their understanding of the IFISC research lines, met the IFISC faculty and discussed with PhD and postdoc researchers. Using this information, the SAB will write an assessment report with recommendations and guidelines to help IFISC plan the future and to ensure that IFISC maintains its highest standards of excellence.

The SAB members are world-class scientists with top contributions to the field of Complex Systems. The SAB is formed by Lluis Torner (chairperson) from ICFO, Barcelona; Ulrike Feudel from Oldenburg University, Oldenburg; Elisabeth Giacobino from Pierre et Marie Curie University, Paris; Alessandro Vespignani from Northeastern University, Boston; and Angelo Vulpiani from La Sapienza University, Rome.
