Dr. José Javier Ramasco, Research Professor of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) at IFISC (Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems, CSIC–UIB), has been awarded the Service Award 2025 by the Complex Systems Society (CSS). This recognition honors his “outstanding contributions to the Society, including the organization of the CCS 2022 conference and his role as Chair of the Steering Committee”.
The Service Award is granted to members of the Society for their efforts in promoting complex systems science and strengthening the CSS community at both national and international levels. The award was presented during the Conference on Complex Systems 2025 (CCS2025), the flagship annual meeting of the Society, held this year in Siena, Italy (September 1–5, 2025). CCS is the most important international conference in the field of complex systems research, bringing together scientists from around the world.
The Complex Systems Society is an international organization devoted to advancing complex systems science worldwide. Its mission includes fostering interdisciplinary research, supporting education, encouraging international collaborations, and representing the global complex systems community.
Dr. Ramasco obtained his BSc and MSc in Physics from the University of Cantabria in 1997, and his PhD from the same institution in 2002. After postdoctoral stays at the University of Porto (Portugal), Emory University (USA), and the ISI Foundation in Turin (Italy), he joined IFISC in Palma de Mallorca, where he is currently a Research Professor at CSIC. Dr. Ramasco’s research is oriented toward the application of complex systems to human mobility and transport.
