Pint of Science 2018

May 8, 2018

Pint of Science, the science popularization festival that proposes a meeting between researchers and the public in the bars, arrives on the 14, 15 and 16th of May in Palma de Mallorca.

For three consecutive days (14, 15 and 16 May), scientists from the Institute of Interdisciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (IFISC, UIB-CSIC) and the Relativity and Gravitation Group of the UIB will be at the iconic Palma 80's Café bar to give informative and entertaining talks.

The 2018 edition will be the second to be held in Palma de Mallorca. For this year there are 6 talks prepared in Palma 80's Café (Plaza Madrid), which is the same as the venue for last year’s event. Pint of Science Palma de Mallorca will start on May 14th at 18:30 with two talks dedicated to the brain: Cristian Estarellas and Adrián García, members of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (IFISC, UIB-CSIC), will explain how both biological and artificial neuronal networks work. The second day will focus on the movement: Juan Fernández and Javier Aguilar, also from IFISC, will unravel the mechanisms behind both human and animal mobility. Finally, on the third and final day of Pint of Science, Daniele Viganò, Leïla Haegel and Marta Colleoni from the Group of Relativity and Gravitation (GRG-UIB) will tell the secrets of black holes and the life of stars. Three days with a wide variety of themes that will bring the science of complexity and space to the bar.

In this fourth national edition, Pint of Science includes 308 events (16% more than in 2017) given by 730 scientists (almost 200 more than in the previous edition) in 105 bars. Pint of Science was born in 2013 by two researchers from Imperial College London, but the idea quickly spread to other countries.
