IFISC People: Gonzalo Manzano

May 10, 2021

We are pleased to announce that Gonzalo Manzano joins IFISC this week as a postdoctoral researcher. Gonzalo graduated in Physics from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he did his PhD in collaboration with IFISC, under the supervision of Juan MR Parrondo and Roberta Zambrini.

His thesis "Thermodynamics and Synchronization in Open Quantum Systems", published in the Springer Thesis series, was devoted to different aspects related to quantum thermodynamics and quantum information, such as fluctuations, irreversibility, thermal machines, synchronization and quantum correlations. After a short Postdoc at IFISC, he continued with his research at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste (Italy). Last year he obtained a ESQ fellowship from the Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND program in the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) Vienna (Austria). He joins IFISC with a Juan de la Cierva Incorporacion fellowship to work within the line of Transport and Information in Quantum Systems, and hoping to trigger fruitful connections with other lines.

He is interested in understanding and characterizing the role of genuine quantum effects in nonequilibrium thermodynamic processes, in different dissipative phenomena arising in open quantum systems, as well as in exploring the far-reaching consequences that modern concepts and tools from thermodynamics of information can bring us when applied to complex systems.
