Entangled atoms as a source of single photons and entangled pairs on demand

We discuss the use of entangled atomic ensembles to create an on demand
source of single photons in an optically controlled spatial mode that is
diffraction limited. Dimensionality reduction of the atomic ensemble allows
entangled photon pairs to be created.
