In this talk we shall be discussing how the concepts and ideas used in
statistical mechanics of surface growth and kinetic roughening can be
very useful to learn about the dynamics of perturbations in
high-dimensional chaos. In particular, I will be talking about two
applications of great practical interest: chaotic delayed systems
and the propagation of finite-size perturbations in extended systems.
