IFISC (https://ifisc.uib-csic.es/en/) is a joint research institute from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) which develops cutting-edge research in Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems. IFISC is currently recognized as a Unit of Excellence “Maria de Maeztu”.
Description:
We aim to recruit a 2 year postdoctoral research assistant funded by the
“Europa Excelencia” project DYNDEEP (Dynamics of Temporal Networks: memory and
deep learning). The project aims to describe temporal networks as trajectories
(time series) of an underlying graph dynamical system. Accordingly, the project
has two objectives. First, we aim to construct methods to analyse the evolution
of temporal networks using time series analysis and dynamical systems theory.
The methodology we build will be validated in synthetic models and then applied
to empirical temporal networks. The second objective is to investigate the
training process of Neural Networks through this lens. We will interpret the
training process of a Neural Network as a temporal network and will apply the
previously built set of measures to characterise the training process from a
dynamical point of view.
Profile of the
applicant:
The applicant should have a PhD in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics or closely
related disciplines, and should ideally have a solid research experience both
in dynamical systems theory / time series analysis as well as in machine
learning, and experience in network
theory. The applicant should also have good coding skills in machine learning
(Python) and be able to set up deep learning pipelines. Other desired skills
include working experience with large databases, strong analytical skills, and a
genuine interest for complex systems and interdisciplinary applications.
