Stable operation of the electric power grid is based on several control methods and suitable management that includes demand forecasting, technical maintenance, generation and transmission planning, etc. The grid operator is the final responsible for matching supply and demand to maintain the frequency stable around its reference value. The generation-consumption balance is not easy to achieve because of the random character of the load and the increasing use of renewable sources which are subject to uncontrollable factors, such as wind or sunlight variability. Furthermore, transmission lines, power plants, and substations are susceptible to disturbances caused by severe weather conditions, overloads, short
circuit], among other reasons, which can introduce additional isolated large disturbances. Thus, in case of a power unbalance, the traditional operation modifies the supply side to follow the demand through different control mechanisms.
When the existing control strategies are not sufficient, grid nodes may lose their synchronization resulting in blackouts. The project aims at modelling Cameroon's power grid, analyzing its stability in scenarios of increasing incorporation of renewable energy sources and propose additional control mechanisms.
