APASOS is organized into two workpackages (WP). WP 1 focuses on models of social processes, and on further developing the mathematical and computational machinery to analyze and understand these models. WP 2 will address a selection of applications and data-driven challenges. Specifically, we will focus on urban systems (Task 2.1, in particular mobility, the use and renewable provision of energy), the flow of patients in hospitals and of data in medical trials (Task 2.2). Task 2.3 addresses questions in language evolution and the determination of linguistics traits from data. Task 2.4 finally studies information ecosystems. The more theoretical Tasks in WP1 have been selected to address recurring themes in WP2. This includes complex contagion in social dynamics (Task 1.1). Higher-order interactions (Task 1.2) feature in social dynamics, biological evolution and in ecology therefore touching upon the work of all tasks in WP 2. Progress on our understanding of language change (Task 2.3) and information ecosystems (Task 2.4) finally can be made with the statistical physics of evolutionary dynamics (Task 1.3), and there are close parallels to opinion dynamics and spreading in space (Task 1.1). Task 1.0 addresses core questions in stochastic modeling, including memory effects, the generation of stochastic trajectories and the construction of unbiased estimators for information measures.
