Welcome

The Master in Physics of Complex Systems is an official degree offered by the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB) in collaboration with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). It is organized and taught by IFISC (Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex), a joint UIB-CSIC research center in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

You can apply through the UIB Centre for Posgraduate Studies.

All the living beings and matter are linked together through interactions that require approaching the system as a whole. That is a complex system.

Complex Systems science is the name given to the emergent field of knowledge dealing with collective phenomena arising from the interaction of many components, but that cannot be understood from individual behavior. The system should be considered as a whole instead. Examples range from the long-range correlations occurring at a classical or quantum phase transition to the self-organized behavior of neurons in the brain or to the complex cooperative phenomena in ant colonies or human cities. Built upon the strong leadership of IFISC in Complex Systems research, the Master degree offers a syllabus covering both fundamental topics (networks, nonlinear dynamics, statistical and quantum physics, ...) and applications in physical, biological and social systems, together with training in the needed theoretical, experimental and computational tools.
