Photonic delay dynamical systems are known to produce a variety of complex behavior which is interesting from both fundamental and applied perspectives. In this seminar, we will discuss the dynamics that arise in semiconductor laser systems with optical feedback and injection, in the special case where the injected beams are rotated to be orthogonal in polarization to their natural emission orientation. Experimental results will be presented for single and coupled laser systems, with an emphasis on self-modulated square wave solutions and their related steady states. We also report progress using various mathematical models to simulate these solutions, and to examine the key ingredients needed for their stabilization.
