Rhythmic Coordination in a Network of Interacting Brain Pathways

Neural oscillations are widely hypothesized to organize information processing and communication across distributed brain areas. Within this framework, the hippocampal theta rhythm (4–8 Hz) has been considered a key clock needed in memory formation and spatial navigation. However, recent evidence challenges this unitary view, revealing multiple, interacting theta generators across hippocampal subregions. 
In this talk, we present our ongoing investigation into the dynamics of theta interactions within hippocampal pathways. We discuss the methodological challenges of disentangling mixed and overlapping sources in neural recordings and outline preliminary insights emerging from our current analyses.
