An algorithmic perspective on the origin of life

Broadcast soon

Is life only a biological phenomenon, or can it arise as an abstract, algorithmic process? Understanding the origin of life remains one of science’s most profound and unresolved problems—closely tied to the difficulty of defining what life is.

In this project, I explore the emergence of “life” within an algorithmic environment where random functions interact and generate new functions. These interactions lead to the spontaneous appearance of small “metabolic” cycles that combine into layered systems of increasing complexity.

The aim is to develop a theoretical framework explaining how thermodynamic constraints shape and drive this emergence, linking information processing and energy flow as fundamental conditions for life-like behavior.
