UNICEF Office of Innovation research scientist visits IFISC

Dec. 21, 2018

On December 20th, Elisa Omodei, research scientist at UNICEF Office of Innovation in New York visited IFISC (UIB-CSIC) and offered a talk. During her presentation, entitled “Complex systems for development and humanitarian response”, Omodei explained not only the main aim of the UNICEF Office of Innovation but some projects carried out by the organization such as the collection and analysis of data to gain critical insights into the needs of the most vulnerable populations, in order to make more informed decisions about how to invest resources to respond to emergencies.

This visit may open the door to future collaborations between IFISC and the UNICEF Office of Innovation that lead to advances in the understanding and modeling of social phenomena such as “epidemic outbreaks and community resilience to natural disasters”, as well as opportunities for IFISC master students to work within this project.

UNICEF (United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund), created by the United Nations General Assembly in 1946, works in 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. The UNICEF Office of Innovation supports countries around the world and works with the private sector to apply technology that can address the challenges facing today’s children.
