Maxi San Miguel wins the Best Teacher Award of the 2023-2024 master course

Maxi San Miguel, researcher at IFISC (UIB-CSIC), has been awarded the Best Teacher of the 2023-2024 academic year in the Master's program in Physics of Complex Systems at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). This award, funded by the Sicómoro Foundation, recognizes excellence in teaching and dedication to student education in the field of complex systems.

Maxi San Miguel has been a key figure in the development of the Master's program, being one of the promoters of its creation in 2012. He has continuously taught in the program since its inception and has supervised more than 10 master's theses (TFMs). Currently, he is the main lecturer in the subject Computational Social Sciences. Additionally, Maxi San Miguel was the IFISC director from its creation in 2007 until 2021, significantly contributing to its growth and reputation.

The Sicómoro Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting research and study of complex systems, funds this award, which includes a personal grant of 500 euros and a commemorative trophy. The Foundation's mission is to promote a new epistemology that surpasses the limitations of the current reductionist analytical method, supporting initiatives related to complexity and complex systems.

The Master's in Physics of Complex Systems at UIB is a program known for its interdisciplinary approach and the quality of its faculty. The Prize Committee evaluated candidates based on several criteria: outstanding leadership and collaborations, student survey results, creation of teaching materials, continuous commitment, and supervision of master's theses (TFMs).

This award not only highlights Maxi San Miguel's work but also underscores the importance of the Sicómoro Foundation in promoting academic excellence and research in complex systems.
