IFISC’s director receives the 2015 Senior Scientist Award by the Complex Systems Society

The Complex Systems Society has awarded Maxi San Miguel, scientific researcher and director of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (joint research center of UIB-CSIC), with the Senior Scientific 2015 Award in recognition of his professional career and interdisciplinary studies of the Complex Systems. The CSS is an international interdisciplinary organization formed by the leading scientists in complex systems research. The award recognizes outstanding contributions relevant to the progress of complexity science. The award statement indicates that  "Maxi San Miguel has been a key player in the interdisciplinary research of complex systems (...) and a source of inspiration in the transfer of knowledge by defining new lines of research beyond the pre-set fields".

Maxi San Miguel is Professor of Physics at the University of les Illes Balears since 1986, Director at IFISC since 2007 and has previously received the Medal of the Spanish Society of Physics-BBVA in 2010. (http://ifisc.uib-csic.es/people/showcurriculum.php?uid=7)

The winner of the first edition in 2014 of the CSS Senior Scientific Award was Professor Eugene Stanley of Boston University, one of the pioneers in the research of complex systems, with outstanding contributions in critical phenomena and in the analysis of  financial markets (introducing econophysics).

A Junior Scientific Award 2015 of the Complex Systems Society has been for Bruno Gonsalves, a visiting scientist at IFISC in the last three years, and co-author of several scientific publications with IFISC researcher José Javier Ramasco. He also collaborated with IFISC researcher David Sanchez in a twitter based  analysis of  Spanish dialects (http://ifisc.uib-csic.es/outreach/?indice=209)
