IFISC seeks the collaboration of Palma's local Government for state of the art projects on mobility and cities as Complex Systems

Oct. 26, 2016

The Institute for Cross Disciplinary and Complex systems (IFISC, UIB-CSIC) on Campus UIB received today the visit of the Mayor of Palma, José Hila, and the Councilor for Education and Sports, Susana Moll. They met the IFISC’s Governing Board, were informed about the research lines at the Institute,  and were shown around the facilities.

The IFISC's Director, Professor Maxi San Miguel, introduced to the Mayor and the Councilor the concept of “Science of Cities" that deals with the study of  cities from a Complex Systems' perspective, including the Socio-Technical research line at IFISC, as well as several published studies on  urban and human mobility thanks to New Technologies such as Big Data.

In this regard , the director of IFISC suggested the possibility of starting a collaboration between the two institutions to give alternatives in the interaction between local transport networks using a complexity’s point of view. They also discussed examples of collaboration projects with other cities such as Barcelona, London, Zurich and Madrid which were funded by the European Commission. These projects can be found on: EUNOIA (http://eunoia-project.eu/) and INSIGHT (http://www.insightproject.eu/) and were about mobility and land use.
