The Complexity of Violence

Broadcast soon

Abstract:

Violence remains a significant issue in numerous regions worldwide. Latin America is home to only 8% of the world's population but is where more than one-third of global homicides happen. In Mexico, for instance, two-thirds of the population consider insecurity the most pressing issue. Despite the relevance of insecurity, there are still many gaps between what is observed regarding crime and its byproducts, such as fear. I'll briefly outline some progress made through the study of complex systems in enhancing our comprehension of violence, cartels and

gangs.
