In this talk I will discuss how emergent properties can provide
computational capabilities to complex systems . As an example I will
first discuss the case of the Game of Life, which is Turing universal,
and then I will show that systems displaying dissipative solitons can
also be used to implement logic gates providing full logical
functionality, proving somehow that a very large class of pattern
forming systems are universal.
