IFISC VPN Service

IFISC VPN (Virtual Private Network) extends the IFISC network across any public network (mobile access, public wifi, home wifi and even UIB wifi), and enables users to send and receive data through it as if their computing devices were directly connected to the IFISC cable network.

VPN service has many advantages. Once configured your client and connected using your IFISC username and Password, you will be granted a basic VPN profile that will let you:

  • Access to any service provided by UIB or CSIC based on IP address (Library, magazines, Licensed software, etc)
  • Access internal Web User Interfaces (Jupiter notebooks, etc)
  • If you already configured a printer, it is accessible without need to connect to wired network

In case you need to use Nuredduna or connect to computational resources (nuredduna nodes) via SSH, your personal computer will have to be verified by IT technicians. Please bring your computer to IT Lab in order to enable your VPN Computing profile. Otherwhise you will get a "Connection timed out" error.

Configuration:

To configure your computer to be able to connect to VPN, first download the VPN IFISC configuration file here:

Then, you can download and install the recommended software for your operating system:

Once installed, at the "Import Profile" window, click on the tab "File" and load the previously downloaded config file. After that you will be prompted for your Username and Password (Your IFISC credentials).

[Alternative] Native method for Ubuntu Linux:

If you're using a recent release of Ubuntu linux, there is no need to install the OpenVPN client, you can configure the connection in Settings / Network:

  • On VPN section click on + symbol (Add VPN)
  • Select "Import from file..." (Not OpenVPN)
  • Load the IFISC VPN config file you downloaded before.
  • Provide Username and Password (your IFISC credentials) and click on "Add".

NOTE: If you can not find those options, install network-manager-openvpn-gnome.
