As the final sociomeeting of the year, we aim to create a space for in-depth discussions on recent research that explores inequalities and disparities through the lens of network science— a fitting way to honor and celebrate the spirit of our beloved prefix, "socio". To achieve this, an alternative type of sociomeeting is coming back: a Journal Club focusing on the two following papers:
- Sun, J., & Karimi, F. (2024). Emergence of group size disparity in growing networks with adoption. Communications Physics, 7(1), 309.
- Martin-Gutierez, S., van Dissel, M. N. C., & Karimi, F. (2024). Intersectional inequalities in social networks. arXiv preprint arXiv:2410.21189.
In a Journal Club, participants are encouraged to read the papers beforehand. This will enhance richer conversations, although both papers will be "briefly" summed up during the talk. Moreover, assistants are also invited to bring ideas related to the topic (inequalities/disparities + network science) in order to foster a collaborative exchange of insights and potentially establish collaborations among us.
