Latest results on electro-optic chaos communications will be reported.
The results were obtained in the recently achieved EC project PICASSO,
in the frame of a close collaboration with the IFISC (initiated during a
previous EC project OCCULT, 2001-2004).
The specific experimental architecture which allowed the achievement of
state of the art in chaos communication, is based on a novel
electro-optic phase delay dynamics, with a temporally nonlocal
nonlinearity. The basic principle of operation of this delay dynamics
inspired by the Ikeda one, will be described and discussed. Dynamical
features will be reported, and compared to previously observed ones with
dynamics on electro-optic intensity chaos generator.
Finally we will report on the record chaos communication results
recently obtained at bit rate up to 10Gb/s, both in back-to-back and
long distance transmission experiments. Also field experiments have been
performed, both in the local fiber network of the city in Besancon,
France, and the one in Athens, Greece.
Security issues will be finally addressed, proposing dedicated hardware
configurations which should offer in the future strongly enhanced
security levels. Other perspectives will be proposed for this phase
chaos architecture, whether for mutual coupling chaos synchronization
issues, or optical liquid state machines.
