The Standard Model of Particle Physics has been able to answer to many basic questions raised by physicists since long time ago: What is matter made of? Which kind of forces domain the Universe? What are the fundamental laws of nature? The pieces of this puzzle, laying over a board of quantum mechanics and special relativity, are capable to explain (and predict) the behaviour of many fundamental phenomena, but not all. This means that some of these pieces are still missing. In this seminar, I will discuss the basics of the Standard Model and the new physics frontiers (why do we need to go beyond? how the LHC will help to that?), focusing the attention in the Higgs sector of the theory, and more precisely, on what happens in the presence of a second Higgs.
