IFISC receives the visit of students from IES Llucmajor

March 28, 2017

On March 23rd, a group of students from IES Llucmajor visited IFISC. The visit started with a presentation of the institute followed by a brief introduction to complex systems’ science done by the Deputy Director Emilio Hernández-García, who also presented the different research lines of IFISC.

After the presentation the students met some doctoral students of the center. In a relaxed atmosphere, they spoke to them about their academic experiences, gave advices on how to dedicate themself to research and presented some of their works.

The visit continued with a tour to some of IFISC facilities, starting with the nonlinear Photonics laboratory. There they could see state-of-the-art technology in photonic equipment and learnt about laser applications such as chaos encryption and photonic information processing.

The visit ended with a tour to the computing services unit, where the technicians of the institute told them about IFISC computational resources, including Nuredduna, the main tool for intensive calculations.

Visiting IFISC is a unique opportunity for pre-university students to meet a leading research center and discover new approaches to physics beyond academic.

The visit was coordinated by the Professor Claudio Mirasso.
