I received the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal, in 2014. I'm currently a researcher at CSIC-IFISC, where I am coordinating the ERC Starting Grant ARCTIC. With more than 140 published peer-reviewed contributions in international conferences and journals, I have a good experience in data mining and machine learning research, both the theory and the application, and I have collaborated with scientists from all over the world. My main topics of interest include Data Science and its application to several real-world problems, including the modelling and understanding of air transport or mining complex biomedical data sets. I'm a member of the editorial team of Nature Scientific Reports, the European Journal of Social Behavior, PeerJ, PeerJ Computer Science and Complexity.
