Future automation solutions will move even more intelligence to the field device level. In a first part I will present a few application examples and give an overview on appropriate technologies for wireless sensor and actuator networks. In a second part I will introduce online learning with Spiral Recurrent Neural Networks as one possible solution for information processing in such embedded systems.
