The importance of synchronous neuronal firing for the coding of information by neuronal networks has been intensively discussed during recent years. I am going to give an overview over results that indicate that neuronal synchronisation on different temporal and spatial scales is task and behaviour related as. Using these examples I am going to review briefly the techniques used in field of neuroscience to detect synchronisation and discuss potentials for improvements.
