Dengue virus, historically endemic in tropical regions, causes an estimated 100–390 million annual infections. With climate change, Aedes mosquitoes reached new geographic regions, causing dengue transmission in regions once spared. As dengue is an emerging health threat in Europe, characterising population knowledge, attitudes, and practices in these areas is essential for effective prevention. Our article presents the results of a survey on dengue knowledge, attitudes and practices among 2,904 French and Italian participants in the InfluenzaNet participatory surveillance network. We examined statistical determinants of awareness of the existence of dengue and knowledge of its characteristics, adoption of preventive measures, vaccination willingness, and the most cited reasons for vaccination refusal. Our work provides essential insights on knowledge, attitudes and practices, paving the way to the targeted design of interventions to raise awareness and encourage the population to adopt of preventive practices.
