Multiple optical systems and devices are nowadays being miniaturized through a technique known as photonic integration. In this talk we will introduce what integration means from an optical point of view, why it can be useful and how can it be implemented practically, reviewing the current material platforms and state-of-the art integrated components. Finally, a brief explanation of VLC Photonics activities will be given.
