About me

Miguel Cornelles Soriano is a tenured scientist at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), currently based at the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (IFISC) in Mallorca (Spain).

My research line covers topics of nonlinear dynamics and information processing based on reservoir computing.

My research interests also include the experimental and theoretical study of semiconductor lasers subject to delayed optical feedback, and the experimental characterization and theoretical modelling of the synchronization properties of semiconductor lasers in the chaotic regime.

PROFESSIONAL ROLE

Responsible for the Nonlinear Physics Laboratory at IFISC (Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems), a joint center of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) and the Spanish Research Council (CSIC). I am also involved in the activities of the Nonlinear Photonics Lab (IFISC). Our experiments with nonlinear electronic systems and semiconductor laser diodes are targeted at applications in information processing and communications.

I have co-directed three (+ three ongoing) PhD Thesis on the practical utilization of delay-coupled semiconductor lasers and novel approaches for information processing, and I have supervised the Master Thesis of fourteen students.

I have contributed to and represented IFISC at numerous science outreach events, including The Science Fair of the Balearic Islands.

EDUCATION

I obtained a PhD degree (with greatest distinction) in the Department of Applied Physics and Photonics (TONA) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium in 2006.

I completed my degree in Telecommunications Engineering at the "Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya" (UPC) in 2002, with the final project's degree carried out in Belgium with an Erasmus scholarship.
