  • 22/2/2017 IFISC Seminar by Gonzalo Manzano "Entropy production and thermodynamic power of the squeezed thermal reservoir". ....Using recent advances in quantum fluctuation theorems [2], we analyze the entropy production and the maximal extractable work from a squeezed thermal reservoir. Our approach allows us to characterize many of the nonequilibrium features that arise, including work extraction from a single reservoir, or a multi-task Otto cycle in which the heat engine may extract work and refrigerate a cold reservoir at the same time [3].

"Microscopic description for the emergence of collective dissipation in extended quantum systems" published today in Scientific Reports 7, 42050 (2017)
When and how does collective dissipation arise in structured environments? Are distant systems dissipating independently? And, any way, "distant" with respect to what?
The answers to these questions in this paper, that suffered a too slow editorial processing- Scientific Reports, this time, not really up to it.

Chosen as Outstanding Referee of Physical Review. Initiated in 2008, the Outstanding Referee program expresses appreciation for the essential work that anonymous peer reviewers do for our journals. Each year a small percentage of our 69,000 active referees are selected and honored with the Outstanding Referee designation. Selections are made based on the number, quality, and timeliness of referee reports as collected in a database over the last 30 years.

Our work looking on non-Markovianity in an exact finite model has been published in Physical Review A 89, 022109 (2014). Which are the specific features making a system depart from a Markovian dissipation? OK, one important factor is the coupling with the environment, but what else? Is the number of degrees of freedom in the environment relevant? If there is a gap, is the proximity with the edge relevant? Which is the effect of temperature? Let's suppose you have an oscillator attached to some finite environment that you can engineer, than you can answer to these questions and also look at the dynamics into the environment to see what is happening. Our paper is in PRA and in arxiv..
