A Lagrangian description of transport associated with a Front-Eddy interaction: application to data from the North-Western Mediterranean Sea

We explore the application of dynamical systems ideas to provide a thorough Lagrangian description of the interaction of some eddies with a front. We find specific realizations of this theoretical framework in a realistic flow of the Western Mediterranean near the Balearic front. With the help of a kinematic model we discuss the Lagrangian implications of vector field bifurcations related to the appearance or disappearance of eddies.
