Cuadro de texto: As for continuous models, IBMs may undergo instabilities leading to pattern formation. We introduce one of such IBMs in which nonlocal interactions play an important role. In the absence of specific techniques to describe pattern formation in IBMs, we derive the connection to a (stochastic) partial differential formulation. This continuous deterministic description reproduces accurately the main pattern forming process. Nevertheless it misses important fluctuation effects such as shifting of thresholds.
