A network perspective on metabolic inconsistency
Comparing gene expression profiles with metabolic pathways under different
experimental conditions is helpful for understanding how the conditions affect
the coherence of these two layers of cellular organization. Here we compare
two recent approaches for such a comparison and find a surprisingly strong
negative correlation of a inconsistency measure [1], obtained by context-specific flux
balance analysis, and the metabolic coherence [2], which relies solely on
metabolic network topology, both measuring the coherence of gene expression
and metabolic needs.
