Absorption of farmeceuticals through cell monolayers

Abstract: Most drugs adminstered orally will be absorbed in the small intestine (through a cell monolayer). Linear absorption is accompanied by nonlinear efflux transporters. A simple model which neglects the division of the cell monolayer into many compartements is presented. Deviding the monolayer into many cell compartements and introducing diversity in the parameters will help to understand the processes which are causing the large variability of measuremtns. Understanding the cause of variability in the absorption process may make the farmaceuticals more efficient.
