The aim of this study was to compare different in vitro assays used to screen for BCRP interacting compounds.Cellular assays only detected low permeability substrates, while they failed to detect high permeability compounds.Our novel ATPase assay detected all substrates as activators of the BCRP ATPase activity. The direct vesicular transport assay only detected the transport of low permeability compounds, while the indirect vesicular transport assay detected all known substrates and inhibitors.
