Abstract: On this poster we reduce a model of glycolysis in yeast by balanced truncation preceded by linearization. The glycolysis model has extracellular glucose concentration as input, and flow of pyruvate as output. The original model, which had 13 state variables, could be well approximated by a system with only 3 state variables. We start with presenting a class of systems which is a general form of metabolic systems. Our long-term project aims at finding reduction methods of this type of systems that produce reduced systems that are good approximations of the original systems, but also allows for some biological interpretation. To use balanced truncation is a first approach in this project.
