The latest (sixth) IPCC report (physical basis of climate change) presented two months ago provides a comprehensive assessment of climate change (our recent past and climate futures). This report builds on the existing literature (over 14000 papers) and global and regional state-of-the-art datasets (both observations and ensembles of model simulations - future projections). The huge amount of data used in the report made it necessary to develop innovative ways for analyzing the data (Interactive Atlas) and the adoption of FAIR principles for reproducibility and reusability. This talk will introduce the main findings of the report from a data perspective and will describe two areas where new techniques from machine learning and complex systems may provide new opportunities for future development, in particular deep learning for downscaling (from global to local scales) and complex networks for ensemble analysis.

Seminar to held presentially in the seminar room, and simultaneously by Zoom. Note the unusual start time (15:00).
