Topological frustration in evolutionary games
We explore the effects of topological mesoscopic structure in the outcome of evolutionary game dilemmas.
Particularizing on the prisoner dilemma and the Stug Hunt we reveal unexpected patterns of cooperation that correspond to
topological frustration in the underlying complex network. While the cooperation levels in the iterated PD can be related
to the sub-structure of networks at the level of modules or communities, the cooperation outcome of the iterated SH relies on
special motifs corresponding to frustrated states. These results can shed light on the evolution of networks and cooperation.
