Language diversity

We have analyzed the global distribution of languages and refined a number of previously reported results: the species-area relationship, the latitude diversity gradient and the importance of environmental factors. Darwin already drew parallels between biological diversity and languages and thus we attempt to extend his, and other, ideas in this area. Furthermore, we have characterized the immanent properties of the network of physically neighboring languages to search for general principles of organization. Work on numerical models is in progress to facilitate future analytical insights.
