Transport from the city center to UIB Campus is made easier by the recently inaugurated Metro line, departing from Plaça d'Espanya. Check further indications in 2. Transport/Metro.

Darwin09 participants will stay in one of the following three Hotels. You will receive an email from the workshop organization with the details of your stay.

All of them are close to each other, in the area of Paseo Mallorca/Jaime III and at walking distance from the Metro station (see 3) Transport/Metro). A map of the city with the location of the three hotels can be found here.

Airport to the city

Palma de Mallorca is very well connected with the rest of Spain and Europe (specially Germany, the UK, Austria, Switzerland and Scandinavia) with its international "Son Sant Joan" airport (airport code PMI), the only airport in the island of Mallorca. The airport lies 8 kilometers east of Palma.
How to go from the airport to the city and back:
Bus: EMT Line 1 Bus, Harbour-Airport (The stop is outside the Arrivals' Hall and, on average, there is one bus every 12-15 minutes). Ticket price: 2 EUR.
For Hotel Palladium please get out at "Passeig Mallorca 38" and for Hotels Jaime III and Almudaina at "Passeig Mallorca 18".
Line 21, departing also from the airport, does not go to Palma downtown, but rather to Arenal.
Taxi: can be found also outside the Arrivals Hall. Average price to Hotels: 20 EUR (with supplements for luggage, night time and Sundays).

Metro: city to workshop venue

This is the recommended transportation between Palma downtown (Plaça de Espanya) and the UIB Campus where the workshop will take place.
Travel time to "UIB" (last station of the ride) is 13 min. There are four services per hour, at 0, 15, 30, and 45 minutes every hour from 8 until 20. Ticket price is 0.90 EUR. Please, keep the ticket until the exit. A return ticket can also be purchased for 1.70 EUR.
After arriving to the UIB Metro station, please take the circular free UIB bus, and get off at the first stop, "Son Lledó". The Darwin09 conference room is just opposite to the bus stop.

Bus service to the UIB

It is also possible to go to the University by bus, using buses 19 or 20. Check here for further information, but the Metro is really the recommended transportation to the Workshop venue. Map of all Routes

The UIB Campus is located 7.5 km from Palma downtown, and is in the middle of a scenic landscape, and quite close to the mountains in the "Serra de Tramuntana" range. A map can be found here.

The average maximum and minimum temperatures by the end of November in Mallorca are around 20 and 12 degrees celsius, respectively. Together with October, it is the rainiest month of the year (71 mm, i.e., 71 liters per square meter). For more information visit, e.g. Weather Online

On Tuesday, 24, there will be a Palma historical and Artistic City Walk afternoon (starting at 6.30 pm).
It will be followed by the Celebration Dinner: "150 years after the origin" at Restaurant "El Café" of "Gran Hotel" building at 8.15 pm

On Wednesday, 25, there will be an excursion by bus to The Valldemossa Village and Guided Visit to the “Cartuja de Valldemossa”, (starting at 2.15 pm.) followed by guided visit at Bellver Castle around 6 pm and a cocktail will be served afterward.
