Tomás Sintes

Tomàs Sintes Olives
Profile

My main scientific activities focus in the field of polymer physics with applications to biological macromolecules, polyelectrolytes and magnetic filaments. One of the main objectives is the design of artificial self-propelling structures and tunable devices that, controlled by external magnetic fields, can be used as selective filters. In addition, my research also includes the study of the pattern formation and growth in out of equilibrium systems with applications to marine ecosystems (seagrass meadows and seaweeds). Our results are expected to be of great relevance in marine restoration programs, estimates of the carbon dioxide capture and their role in the climate change mitigation; the existence of tipping points that identify the risk of plant extinction and the mapping of the genetic diversity as a measure of their adaptability to environmental changes.
