El IFISC en la Setmana de la Ciència i la Tecnologia de les Illes Balears 2010.
El IFISC organiza y coordina un completo programa de actividades de divulgación científica enmarcadas en la Setmana de la Ciència i la Tecnologia de les Illes Balears 2010.
Todas las actividades y talleres cuentan con el patrocinio de la Conselleria d'Innovació, Interior i Justicia a través de la Direcció General de Recerca, Desenvolupament Tecnològic i Innovació, i la colaboración de la Oficina de Suport a la Recerca (OSR) de la Universitat de les Illes Balears.
El láser cobrará un especial protagonismo en la Setmana de la Ciència i la Tecnologia 2010 puesto que se celebra mundialmente el 50 aniversario de su invención.
Para conmemorar este hito científico y con el objetivo de acercar al público general el conocimiento del láser y sus aplicaciones científico-tecnológicas el IFISC tiene programadas las siguientes actividades:

II Modern Optics Days IFISC-OSA. July 5-9. 50th Laser Aniversary
L'Institut de Física Interdisciplinària i Sistemes Complexos (IFISC), organisme de recerca mixt entre la UIB i el CSIC, i el grup d'estudiants de l'IFISC-OSA (Optical Society of America) han organitzat la segona edició de les Jornades d'Òptica Moderna, que tindran lloc del 5 al 9 de juliol al campus universitari. Enguany, les jornades estan dedicades a la celebració del cinquantè aniversari de la invenció del làser.
El seminari, que comptarà amb la participació d'una vintena d'estudiants dels àmbits de la física i les enginyeries de la Universitat de les Illes Balears, introduirà els assistents en el camp de l'òptica del segle XXI i els aportarà informació dels temes que són objecte d'investigació de la comunitat científica internacional. Les jornades també facilitaran la comunicació i el debat entre els participants.
Amb motiu de la celebració del cinquantè aniversari de la invenció del làser, les jornades inclouen sessions dedicades a la història, als principis físics del funcionament, a la dinàmica, i a les aplicacions del làser. També hi haurà sessions pràctiques en què els participants tindran l'oportunitat de familiaritzar-se amb aquests dispositius.

IFISC has participated at the Science Fair of the Balearic Islands 2010 with two scientific outreaching projects:

- 50 YEARS OF LASER with the collaboration of the Associació de Físics de les Illes Balears (ASFIB)
This outreaching project has been posible thanks to the collaboration of FECYT (Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología) and Government of the Balearic Islands, specifically the Conselleria d'Innovació, Interior i Justícia

IFISC Exploratory Workshop . 9,10 March 2010
The Institute of Cross Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (IFISC) organizes the first IFISC Exploratory Workshop to focus the discussion on the question: how does nformation processing emerge in the brain? and address the challenge of understanding how our brain processes and encodes information coming from sensory systems.

Demolab IFISC, March 29 and April 19
El pasado mes de Abril, el IFISC participó en el Programa Demolab destinado a promover los estudios científicos entre el alumnado de secundaria. Mas de 40 alumnos participaron en un taller de Laseres de Semiconductor y visitaron el laboratorio de Fotònica.

La revista de tecnología más antigua del mundo, Technology Review, destaca en su último número, dentro de las reseñas de su sección de blogs del arXiv, uno de los trabajos realizados por David Zueco, investigador post-doc del Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Aragón (ICMA), centro mixto de la Universidad de Zaragoza y del CSIC. El trabajo, realizado con Fernando Galve del Instituto de Física Interdisciplinar y sistemas Complejos (IFISC) de Mallorca y con el colombiano Leonardo Augusto (UNC), demuestra que en algunas condiciones sí pueden existir fenómenos cuánticos en temperaturas ambientes.

Modern optics days IFISC -OSA
The Institute for-Cross Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems, IFISC, and The Optical Society of America, OSA, organized between 6 and july 10, the First Modern Optics Days. A group of 20 students in the field of Physics and Engineering of the Universitat de les Illes Balears attended the IFISC-OSA conferences that introduced them to the field of XXI Century Optics, and provide them information on the issues being investigated by the International ScientificCommunity. These days were also useful to facilitate communication and debate among participants and students on that discipline.

CSIC staff meeting at IFISC. May 22
The meeting was presided by Prof. Juan Jose Damborenea, vicepresident of CSIC investigation. To this meeting celebrated at IFISC came the directors of the 20 research centers of the CSIC Physic´s area and the members of the scientific comission. The aim of the meeting is to present and to analize the Strategic Plan of the Physic´s area withing the strategic plan of CSIC 2010-2013.
Conference Series Explorant les Fronteres entre els Sabers II
Conference Series "Explorant Les Fronteres entre els Sabers II" took place in the Cámara de Comercio the last months of May and June. In this second edition, the IFISC collaborated with "Club Diario de Mallorca and the Conselleria d'Economia, Hisenda i Innovació of the Government of Balearic Islands.
Conference Series was opened on May 20, with Dr. Joaquín Marro from the Instituto Carlos I de Física Teórica y Computacional of the Universidad de Granada. His talk "Physics and Life: Relationship between Physics, Nature and Society" opened the Conference Series. June 10, Dr. Camilo José Cela Conde of the EVOCOG (Evolution and Human Cognition), Unit associated with the IFISC-CSIC of the Universitat de les Illes Balears, participated with the talk "Human Evolution, from the Simple to the Complex". June 18, Dr. Bartolo Luque from the Departamento de Matemática Aplicada y Estadística of the Universidad Ploitécnica de Madrid, closed Conference Series with his talk "Complex Sounds".
The aim of this Conference Series, both the 2008 Edition and this year, is to present, from an interdisciplinary perspective, different examples, paradigms of complex systems.
The Science of the twentieth century has been characterized by a progressive specialization that has enabled breakthrough in specific areas. The great challenge of the XXI century science is to explore the frontiers between different areas of knowledge and its interdisciplinary development, allowing understanding of complex systems.

Science Fair of the Balearic Islands.Menorca, March 26-28 2009
Science Fair is an activity addressed the general public wich pretends to stimulate the development of the creative and scientific abilities, to promote investigation and to spread scientific and technological knowledges. The IFISC is present at The Science Fair for the second consecutive year. His participation is part of the block of different research projects presented by the UIB.
Trough this activity the IFISC tries to disseminate and communicate his scientific work promoting the value of scientific knowledge and improving its public perception. This year the central theme of the IFISC’s stand has been optics, counting on the participation of the newly formed group.
There were a dozen different activities on laser light and applications, optical illusions and image formation. Diversity of the proposed scientific experiences helped to teach and entertain small and big alike.
