Ultra-high quality whispering gallery mode resonators have the
capability to confine photons in nonlinear media for a long time,
typically one million times longer than in a semiconductor laser. This
feature enhances various interactions amongst them and opens the way
for various technological applications. In this talk, we review the
most recent advances in WGM resonators theory and applications, and we
outline as well some of the most important challenges to be addressed
in the years to come.
